About the Stroop Effect

The Stroop effect demonstrates cognitive interference — when the brain must suppress an automatic response (reading the word) to perform the task (naming the ink color). Each round has a 3-second timer — run out and you lose the point!

How It Works

Reading is automatic. When a color word conflicts with its ink, your brain takes extra time resolving the conflict. Training to override this improves inhibitory control — a core skill for decision-making under pressure.

Why This Matters for Gaming

  • Information filtering: Ignore irrelevant HUD elements during combat
  • Focus under pressure: Maintain concentration when multiple distractions compete
  • Decision making: Choose the right action when conflicting inputs exist

What This Trains

Working memory, attention control, processing speed, and the mental clarity behind fast in-game decisions.

How To Use It Well

Keep sessions brief and clean. Stop when accuracy falls, then review whether speed or precision caused the drop.

Best For

  • Focus training
  • Memory drills
  • Mental warm-ups before practice
